Important Kailash Tour Information/Mansarovar Tour Information

Insurance for Kailash Manasarovar Yatra
The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra requires comprehensive travel insurance due to the extreme altitudes, unpredictable weather, and remote location. It is explicitly excluded from standard travel insurance plans that cover trekking above 3,000 meters. The Kailash and Manasarovar Yatra / tour must be covered by medical insurance that covers emergency evacuation and all medical expenses. It is therefore recommended that you get yourself insured before beginning the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra. Kailash and Manasarovar Yatra / tour. Kailash tour information mentions everything.

Altitude Ceiling up to 6,000 meters:
You will have to make sure that your policy covers you up to 6,000 meters above sea level, since the trek starts at 1350 meters and the highest point is 5,636 meters high at Dolma La Pass.

Emergency Medical Evacuation A helicopter rescue in the remote Himalayan corridors can easily cost between $8,000 to $20,000 ($50,000–$100,000 minimum insured).

Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) Validity: The Tibet section of your itinerary may be excluded from many standard policies that cover restricted or conflict-adjacent areas. You should verify that this coverage includes this section explicitly

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) Coverage: A policy must cover hospitalization and treatment of altitude-related illnesses, not just general physical injuries

Trip Interruption & Delay: The number of flights disrupted due to bad weather is incredibly high on routes with multiple flights (e.g., Kathmandu-Lhasa-Kathmandu) or Kathmandu -Chengdu - Lhasa and back to Kathmandu. The domino effect of missed bookings or permit delays should be covered by your insurance, not just general physical injuries.

Tibet / China Side: There is a strict ban on helicopter evacuations inside of Tibet due to local regulations. A person who experiences a medical emergency on the Chinese side must be transported to the Nepal border by land (via ambulance or Jeep).

Nepal Side: The insurance company can send a helicopter for air evacuation after you cross the border back into Nepal and complete the border formalities

Health Pre – Caution for Kailash tour
As the journey reaches extreme elevations between 3,500 meters to 5,636 meters (18,471 feet) at the Dolma La Pass, pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar requires extensive medical and physical preparation. In these heights, oxygen levels drop significantly, posing severe risks of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE), and High-Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE).

At higher altitude areas in Kailash, the amount of oxygen is less. Certain illness such as Headache, nausea, lassitude, lethargy, breathlessness, general uneasiness [malaise], high irritability, light loss of balance, disorientation, incoherence and insomnia etc may be induced in the inclement weather and high-altitude area which generally is not encountered over the plains. This kind of problem can be seen in anyone irrespective of their age, sex and physical fitness. Tranquilizers, sleeping doses and strong antibiotics must be avoided during this tour and gradual acclimatization is the best solution for these problems while some symptoms may also be indicating the readjusting of our body to new environments. Here are some best rules you should consciously follow to avoid such risks.

Cardiopulmonary Check: Before booking, you must undergo a comprehensive medical examination. The Wilderness Medical Society generally advises individuals with preexisting heart conditions, respiratory conditions (like severe asthma or COPD), and an ejection fraction under 40% not to take part in this trip.

Pretravel Consultation: You should schedule a travel physician appointment at least six weeks prior to departure to discuss the location-specific vaccination requirements and to update routine immunizations.

Follow a Gradual Ascent: It is best not to fly or drive directly to high elevations. Instead, plan a multi-day itinerary that includes rest days (e.g., stopping at Kathmandu, Nyalam, and Saga) to allow your body to adjust naturally.

Hydration and Diet: It is essential to consume at least three to four liters of water each day in order to combat the dry mountain air. You should avoid alcohol, tobacco products, and caffeine completely, as they can cause dehydration and impair respiration. Eat small, carbohydrate-rich meals regardless of how hungry you feel.

Acetazolamide (Diamox): Acclimatization is accelerated and prevented with this drug. It is often prescribed as a preventive dose of 125 mg twice daily, starting 24 to 48 hours before travel to high altitudes. NOTE: It may increase sun sensitivity and diuretic effects.

Gastrointestinal Support: If you're experiencing severe traveler's diarrhea, bring oral rehydration salts (ORS), antacids, and an antibiotic. Be careful not to drink from local streams or rivers.
