For the holy Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, every single day is a spiritual day. However, traveling through the high-altitude terrain between May and September 2027 is necessary to make the pilgrimage safe to accessible. Pilgrims consider full moon dates in August (such as August 17, 2027, for Janai Purnima) prime times for their journeys.

The Hindu scriptures describe Lake Manasarovar as having originated in the mind of Lord Brahma (Manas) before manifesting on Earth. The pristine, high-altitude waters of Janai Purnima are said to wash away the karmic impurities of a hundred lifetimes. Snan (ritual bathing) symbolizes spiritual rebirth and total cleansing of the soul for pilgrims in these freezing waters.
